The pattern must be produced for every casting made. This process starts with the pre-expansion of polystyrene beads, which contain pentane as a blowing agent. The pre-expanded beads are blown into a mold to form pattern sections. A steam cycle causes the beads to fully expand and fuse together in the mold.
Application. Polystyrene can be added to nanocatalyst suspension to prepare a polystyrene-photocatalyst thick film. This film can be used as a photoanode in an airlift photocatalytic fuel cell (APFC). Polystyrene can be used as a precursor to prepare graphene film and 3D graphene sponges by pyrolysis under argon atmosphere.

Polystyrene – Thermal Conductivity. Thermal conductivity of Polystyrene is 0.12 W/ (m·K). The heat transfer characteristics of a solid material are measured by a property called the thermal conductivity, k (or λ), measured in W/m.K. It is a measure of a substance's ability to transfer heat through a material by conduction.
